Therapy is a safe, non-judgmental place to heal with a trained professional. Friends and family mean well, but usually do not have the knowledge or skill to help you get unstuck and heal from past trauma or process and work through current problems. Therapist have years of post graudate training and we are required to take an additional 35 hours of training every other year, to keep our license active. That means we are continually learning and growing so that we can help you make the changes you want in your life.
How long do sessions last and where are they held?
Both individual, couple and family sessions are 50-55 minutes. Sometimes I book 2-hour sessions with clients if we need more time to work through the presenting issue.
Sessions are held virtually but on occasion, we can schedule an in-person session as needed.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, I take insurance and use Headway to manage the billing and administrative processes. I am paneled and considered “in-network” with the following insurance companies:
Aetna
Cigna
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield
United Healthcare
Each healthcare plan is different so you will need to check with your provider to find out your specific costs including copay, deductible, coinsurance and session cost. It is important to note that when using your healthcare insurance for therapy services, I will have to assess and diagnose you at our first session. Some clients are fine with this process because they want to use their health insurance benefit, but others are uncomfortable with the diagnosis and the medical model used for therapy and prefer to pay out of pocket.
My out of pocket rate for individuals is $150 and $165 for couples. A limited number of sliding fee slots may be available. This can be discussed during the consulation call.
How long before any progress is made?
Therapy is not one size fits all, so it’s not possible to give an answer on when you’ll see progress. Most clients report some symptom relief after the 1st session because they finally took a step towards their healing. Many clients report starting to feel better after session 2-3.
It’s important to note that as a therapist, I am here to support, guide and challenge you, but you are doing the work. The rate at which you see progress is dependent on many factors, but the most important one is you. If you are ready to do “the work” then you will see progress sooner.
What if I want to end services?
The relationship between therapist and client is an important one and it needs to work for everyone involved. I always tell clients that if they feel therapy is not working or I am not a “good fit” for them, to let me know and I can help refer you to other therapists who might work better for you. This can be communicated through a text, email, phone call or session, but being upfront about no longer wanting therapy is better than just disappearing. I will not get upset or take it personal because it is not about me. It’s about you and not letting anything get in the way of your healing journey. When I consult with couples, I make sure to tell them that both people have to agree to work with me. The health of your relationship is what’s important and the therapist you choose needs to work for both of you.
How often do you see clients?
Most clients are seen bi-weekly (every other week), but the frequency of sessions depends on your individual needs. This will be discussed with your therapist during your initial session.
Do you give homework?
I don’t have a prescribed set of homework I give clients, but I often give clients work to do between sessions. This homework gives you specific things to track, questions to ask yourself, specific topics to think about, or quesitons to ask loved ones, that you will share at the next session. Giving homework will help you achieve your goal faster because you are an active participant in your healing and you don’t have to wait until the next session to make progress.
